How long will it take me to qualify as an Ocean Diver?

Training typically takes between 3 and 6 months but one size doesn’t fit all! We’ll work at a pace that suits you and if you need to revisit any aspect of your training, that’s fine. Our team of volunteer instructors have years of experience and will tailor your tuition to ensure you are comfortable and safe in the water.

What’s involved in the training?

Diver training involves three components: theory, practice and application. Typically these will take the form of theory lessons on a Friday evening at the club with a multi choice examination at the end. Practical dive skills and training lessons are undertaken in the pool (after your theory lesson) and then you’ll progress to open water dives once you’ve honed your skills.

I don’t have any diving equipment, can I still undertake the course?

Yes. We have a full inventory of dive equipment for all our trainee divers. Kit hire is provided free in the first year and our instructors will be able to give you practical advice on purchasing your own equipment when you’re ready.

I’m already a qualified diver, do you organise dive trips?

Yes. One of the benefits of our club is that we cater for divers of all ability and every year we organise many dive trips both in the UK and abroad. Check our events page to find out what’s planned this year.

Do you have access to a pool for me to practice and improve my skills?

Yes. We have exclusive use of the Brentwood Centre pool on Fridays from 8.45pm to 9.45pm and you’re welcome to join us each week to sharpen your skills or test new kit.

I learnt to dive with another organisation but can I still join a BSAC club?

Yes – many of our members learnt to dive with other organisations either in the UK or abroad. You can develop your skills further by joining our club and more information about the BSAC diver grades can be found here.

Does the club organise social activities?

Yes. We believe it’s important to have fun both in and out of the water. We regularly organise fun events for the family including boat trips (from our own RHIB) , BBQ’s, online seminars, quizes and many more.
