BRENTWOOD SELO 177 SUB AQUA CLUB
Training Available
We regularly run courses for all levels of divers from beginners who start with the Ocean diver qualification which means they can dive to 20m under supervision; they can then progress to the Sports diver course where rescue skills and further diving skills are introduced. Many people stay at this level for a while whilst consolidating their skills and gaining practical diving experience before moving on to the Dive Leader qualification where more advanced rescue skills and techniques are introduced as well as teaching how to plan and marshal dives to be safe and enjoyable. The last diver grade to be taught at branch level is Advanced diver, which concentrates on structured broadening of experience in a wide range of conditions.
Instructor Training
We are in a very fortunate position where three of our instructors are also Instructor trainers. This means that they regularly meet up with various regional coaches and National Instructors and have their teaching skills assessed which can only help maintain the high standard of teaching within the club. It also means that when members wish to move on and become instructors we can offer them lots of back up and support as they move forward and want to undertake more advanced teaching.
Skill Development Courses (SDC's)
Once you have
gained your diver grades you can enhance your qualification by
attending numerous SDC's in subjects such as: Rescue Skills, Boat
handling, Dive Planning and Marshalling, Search & Recovery, Marine
Biology, Archaeology, Photography, Nitrox, extended range, the list
goes on and on.
The Instructor Team
The team
consists of the training Officer (this year Jim Stewart) who heads
up the very active and enthusiastic team. The club has 4 Advanced
Instructors, 3 Open water Instructors, 1 club instructor and 3
assistant instructors. Having such a large team means we can
generally provide training to anyone that wishes to learn to dive at
any level.
